The most risky part is when Github decides to delete your account or repository, you would loose all of your intellectual property, because it was all on the cloud.

But would they do it without a good reason? That sounds like a lawsuit in the making.

Regarding point 1, you know that IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition is open source[1], right?

Try using your favourite language will lead you to search for a plug-in. Then you discover you need the ultimate edition. Parts of it are open source but all of the parts you need aren't.

That’s only one of their products, and you have to pay to unlock the full version.

I have been using it for a few "years" now. It has exceeded my expectation for stability from a "nightly" product. I don't even remember having problems with it in last few years, and it's my primary browser.
