really we should be giving credit to hammurabi for developing the idea of laws in the first place. where would deblasio be without him??

Is that the explanation your boss forced you to accept when you did 90% of the work and he took all the credit?

non tech people will never hear about it haha, and if they did they'd be ten times as baffled as the others in this thread

Until someone at Google makes signups to this someone's KPI. Then you'll hear about it whenever you touch any Google product until it inevitably gets killed in 18 months. Meanwhile the PM hit their KPI and got promoted.

interesting. this will no doubt produce some fascinating new lines of inquiry but as with most neuroscience stuff entering the mainstream, be wary of pretty much all takes and repurposing of this new info into some preexisting narrative about the nature of decisionmaking or consciousness, why the 'lizard brain' drives our desires, etc etc.

feels like brain and quantum science, being as they are so rudimentary yet evocative, are especially vulnerable to popular distortion. be safe out there

that's not the main point of the article

that's not even the topic of the article

that refers to a post from 2025 that he links to. this is clear from the first sentence of the article. I suspect maybe you didn't actually read the article and spent more time writing this erroneous comment than you might have reading the article.

This is literally the main point of the article: "The nice thing about keeping a blog is that I can say at precisely 9:51am, Wednesday 5th February 2025, I discovered that macOS 15.3 had enabled a feature that was phoning home every 15 minutes with personal data. And that I said “no” and turned it off."

the intent of the painting does not come from the person who made the brush.

I think you should revisit your understanding of intentionality in this context

I do this too - "thee actual" vs "thuh real" and such. I do expect it's to do with having a vowel sound of a certain kind at the beginning of the next work making you move your tongue in a certain way.

I do too, but with an exception—if I’m going to emphasize the word “actual” I’ll say “thuh ACTual” but with a full stop after the “the” so that I can really chew on that first syllable for the emphasis.

with "the actual" I imagine you're also putting in a kind of intrusive "y" sound so it flows better into the vowel

yep although I don't think it sounds too intrusive. it comes out as theeyactual while the alternative would the thuh.Actual with a sort of micro-accent on the A. I'm sure linguists have names for all these things, like when the movements of the tongue and mouth incidentally form phonemes!

don't worry too much. english is such a muddled tongue to begin with that there are many ways of saying something "correctly" and few if any of us know them all. anyone who quibbles over some fine verbal point is probably not someone whose opinion you should value!

that said I know in business communication this kind of thing can be less forgiving. i will say that grammar and syntax checking for non native speakers is one of the few very beneficial applications of LLMs.

Tongue?

In this sense, it's a synonym for "language". Usually used as "mother tongue" (meaning, the language one grew up speaking).

AI can't critique because it has no critical faculty. It can only offer critique-shaped language. That may be useful for some, though.

That’s not entirely true. High end models will point out things that are misrepresented or plain wrong, and this will often be accurate.

Potayto, potahto

I don't think that comparison is quite apropos
